The Motivational Supervisor: Motivational Interviewing as a Staff Supervision Style
In this practical and interactive 2 day in-person training we consider how insights from Motivational Interviewing (MI) changes how leaders lead as they approach staff supervision using a strength-based, collaborative and autonomy supportive style that facilitates psychological safety in the workplace.
MI as a supervision style offers a path to successful supervisor-staff relationships. In turn, a positive staff experience of work can lead to higher levels of engagement which can lead to improvements in productivity and performance, higher levels of wellbeing and increased client satisfaction with the organisation.
This training would be especially suitable for line managers, supervisors and team leaders.
By the end of the training, you will be able to:
- Discuss how Motivational Interviewing can be used as a supervision style
- Begin practicing the underpinning spirit and skills of Motivational Interviewing as they apply in a staff supervision context
- Discuss the ethics of practicing Motivational Interviewing in a supervisory role.
Enhanced Level: The enhanced level specifies the practice-specific knowledge and skills expected of anyone who has frequent contact with people affected by substance use. The ‘enhanced’ levels would typically apply to those in more advanced roles, such as supervisory or managerial positions.
