Drug Awareness

This facilitator led course aims increase drug awareness and knowledge and participants will have the opportunity to explore current and emerging trends within substance use. The training will consider harm reduction and support strategies. 

Course objectives:  

• ​Identify reasons why people use substances
• Name the seven key drug categories and their key effects  
• Recall local current drug trends and patterns of use
• Discuss how attitudes and stigma can affect recovery
• Discuss effective strategies and treatment options to support people who use drugs and alcohol, including harm reduction.  

Informed Level: The informed level specifies the baseline practice-specific knowledge and skills every worker in the drugs and alcohol sector should be developing upon entering employment.
