This facilitator course is to support practitioners to listen and respond effectively and appropriately to children affected by parental substance use. 

Course objectives:  

  • Identify the impact of parental substance use on children  
  • Describe the child’s change cycle in parental use and recovery  
  • Practise the assessment of risk for children affected by parental substance use  
  • Identify ways to actively engage and hear young people’s stories 

Skilled Level: The skilled level specifies the practice-specific knowledge and skills expected of practitioners who have direct or substantial contact and responsibility for people affected by substance use, and who are responsible for direct care or treatment of people affected by substance use. The ā€˜skilled’ level would typically apply to those in roles where there is responsibility for planning and delivery of support, care, or treatment.
