SUBSTANCE USE SESSION
Course objectives:
- Describe the main theories of addiction.Â
- Identify reasons why people use substances and recall local current trends and patterns of use.Â
- Describe how stigma impacts on the quality and effectiveness of treatment and recall language which de-stigmatises people affected by substance use.Â
- Describe how substance use is used as an adaptive coping response to trauma and its impact.Â
- Identify the impact of parental substance use on children and describe the child’s change cycle in parental use and recovery.Â
- Identify the impact of substance use on relationships.Â
- Review effective tools and strategies and their application in practice.Â
Informed Level: The informed level specifies the baseline practice-specific knowledge and skills every worker in the drugs and alcohol sector should be developing upon entering employment.
