SUMMARY:A TASTE OF MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING (ONLINE SCOTLAND WIDE)
DESCRIPTION:This 2 hour trainer-led session provides a basic overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) practice which may be of interest to those looking to develop an awareness of this evidence-based method. MI is a psychological intervention which uses a counselling method designed to strengthen a person’s own motivation and commitments to change\, particularly when they feel uncertain or ambivalent. This session is designed for practitioners who are directly responsible for supporting behavioural and lifestyle change with people who may be struggling to commit to change. Please note. this session is not designed to be a training course in Motivational Interviewing and will not increase the skilfulness of participants in the practice of Motivational Interviewing. The aim is to acquaint participants with the basic concepts and method of Motivational Interviewing. \n\n\n\nLearning Outcomes  \n\n\n\nBy the end of the session\, you will be able to: \n\n\n\n· Discuss the nature of ambivalence about change.  \n\n\n\n· Discuss the underlying spirit of Motivational Interviewing practice.  \n\n\n\n· Discuss how Motivational Interviewing can influence motivation toward change.
